Battle Of Britain Oval Gunsight (pg2 Gun)

A/M 8B/2493 MK II

The Holy Grail of Gunsight's. Probably the rarest and most sought after Gunsight of the early war, when Britain and its Commonwealth stood alone. The oval glass reflector Gunsight was used throughout the Battle of Britain and replaced soon after by the square glass type. Some corrosion  on the data plate. I have removed the rubber from the front as it appeared badly burned and detracted from the Gunsight's appearance. The remains of the rubber will be supplied to the purchaser. The gunsight will also be supplied with a fitted new cut glass before despatch. The reticule is damaged and needs a new filter. This gunsight apart from the new cut glass is 100% original.

You can also make out the oval sight in the picture of Ginger Lacey in his Battle of Britain Spitfire. Also note the square mirror available in pg 2 misc section.

James Harry Lacey was born on February 1st 1917 at Wetherby, Yorkshire, and left King James’ Grammar School, Knaresborough in 1933. After four years as an apprentice pharmacist he joined the RAFVR (Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve) in January 1937 as a trainee pilot at Perth, Scotland. Two years later, he joined 1 Squadron at Tangmere. During the Battle of Britain, Lacey became one of the highest scoring pilots of the conflict. His first kill of the battle was on July 20th when he shot down a Bf109. He then claimed a destroyed Ju87 and a “probable” Ju87 on August 12th along with a damaged Bf110 and damaged Do17 on August 15th, a probable Bf109 on August 16th, he destroyed a Ju88, damaged a Do17 on August 24th and shot down a Bf109 on August 29th. On August 23rd, Lacey was awarded the DFM.

B17/B24 Turret Gunsight(pg1 gunsight)

Mint in its original box this Gun sight was used in the turrets of the B17 and B24 Bomber.

The B17 Flying Fortress, together with the B24 Liberator, bore the brunt of American daylight strategic bombing in the European theatre during the Second World War. At the height of production Boeing’s Seattle plant alone produced a completed aircraft every ninety minutes. A total of 12731 Fortresses were manufactured of which just over two-hundred were supplied to the RAF. Although often overshadowed by the B17 Flying Fortress, the B24 Liberator was built in greater numbers than any other US military aircraft and served with distinction in both war and peace. The first B24 Liberator made its maiden flight on 29 December 1939

RFC WW1 Gun sight  (pg2 Gun)

I think I have seen it all then a piece like this comes along, could this be the first attempt to make a reflector gun sight?. The info I got from the seller is under. If anyone can identify the aircraft this was used in a 10% discount on any part on the site will be their's.

This is a small original reflector gun sight. It is made from blackened brass and has a bowed glass with Red Cross hairs. It folds flat and when the glass is lifted a spring-loaded sight flips up. Likewise it has a spring-loaded tray with a mirror. The base has a slot for affixing. The only marking are BTF. S.GDG. AG. It is a heavy quality piece and came from an RAFA Club that closed down. All pieces were donated by members. I believe it is a WW1 Aviation piece

Russian Gun sight (pg2 Gun sight's)

The Famous Russian IL-2 Sturmovik Fighter.

A really nice Russian gun sight complete with its mounting Bracket. I believe this to be a WW2 item although I have seen it on a website that claims its from a Mig 25 sight-e-s.htm . I find this hard to believe as Reflector gun sight's were being fazed out at the latter stages of WW2 in favour of the Giro Gun sight.  The sighting ring appears with only natural light and works perfectly .
