Dummy parachute
(pg3 Pilot)
Correction to the original
description I have been informed by Jim van Ommeren
that
This is a post-war PX- type
dummy parachute as used by the parachute regiment for ground
training.
They have a mock-up of a transport
aircraft. And to train the pupils the correct drill in
entering -exit and emergency procedures they use these dummy
parachutes. There is a dummy reserve parachute to go along
with that.
The PX-type parachute is the (1963)
successor of the wartime X-type parachute. the wearer should
be able to read the quick release buckle when wearing the
harness.
Still makes a
great substitute for reanactors

First aid dinghy kit box(pg3 Pilot)
How rare is this? its
the only one I have ever seen. This is not the original
contents, just a few bandages for effect . This would be for
a larger aircraft dingy like a Lancaster as its 4 to
10 men. Manufactured before the end of 1943.

WW11 Irvin Parachute Harness(pg3 Pilot)
This is an A1 condition Irvin
pattern parachute harness of the type used by RAF & Allied
bomber crews. The realise catch works perfectly
In early 1918 Leslie Irvin realized the need for a
reliable parachute for flyers and began to put his own ideas
on life-saving parachutes into practice. The exact
specifications of the first parachute that Leslie made are
not recorded. What is known is that it was a static-line
operated back-pack; that it incorporated a harness of
original but somewhat uncomfortable design; that the canopy
was made from cotton; and that it worked. We know that it
worked because Leslie himself jumped with it several times
during the spring and summer of 1918.
One parachute descent performed by Leslie L. Irvin stands
out as a major turning point in the history of the parachute
and as the beginning of a new era. On McCook Air Field on
April 28th 1919, Sky High Irvin, established his reputation
as the first man to make a premeditated free fall parachute
descent. Leslie was undoubtedly affected by the pessimism of
those around him when he was quoted as saying, "I would have
been all right if everyone around me had not acted as though
they were going to be my pall-bearers." the parachute he
wore was designed by Major E.C. Hoffman from the U.S. Air
Service Engineering Division.
